S31 Will of the people?

Key Questions

  1. To what extent should government reflect the will of the people?

  2. Why do government practices not always reflect liberal values?

  3. To what extent are the practices of liberalism viable in the context of contemporary issues?

In this section of our course you will be exploring different historical and contemporary case studies. In some of these case studies federal or provincial governments made decisions that did not necessarily reflect the will of the people. In some situations, the action may even be considered by some to be illiberal.

Your task will be to study each of these situations and determine for yourself how to answer our three essential questions.
